The weekend after his son start’s riding, Dr Chris Leatt witnesses the death of fellow rider, Alan Selby. He’s moved to begin designing his first neck brace prototypes.

2004
Dr. Leatt sold the first Leatt-Brace® in South Africa.

2006
At EICMA, BMW documents the Leatt-Brace®.
Later that year, the brace finally makes it to market.
Dr. Leatt & Andreas Geisinger introduced the product at the 6th International Motorcycle Conference in Cologne, Germany.

2007
The Leatt-Brace® features on the cover of RacerX.
Awarded Product of the Year by the same publication.
Motocross Action gives Leatt a 5/5 star product rating
A critically injured David Bailey releases a video encouraging the use of the Leatt-Brace®  for all riders. Demand for the product spikes.

2008
World renowned Leatt® Lab founded.

2009
Leatt® receives the SAMIA Award for Outstanding Safety Achievement.
Winner of the 2009 Innovations Award at Eurobike.
Readers of Motocross Action vote the Leatt-Brace® ‘Product of the Decade’.

2010
DBX, the first bicycle-specific neck brace system is introduced.
Leatt® DBX wins BrandNew Award (in the Safety Equipment category) at BikeExpo in Germany.
Downhill Mountain Bike star, Sam Hill, returns from an injury to take the World Championships while wearing a Leatt DBX brace.
Leatt® rider Ryan Dungey wins the SuperCross Championship convincingly.
